CHARACTER
Character Name: Saruhiko Fushimi
Character Age: 20
Canon: K ( Project K )
Canon Point: Season 2, Episode 11. Immediately after opening the gate.
History: "The day you'll finally understand me will never come, so you'll have no choice but to keep hating me."
Personality:

"I'll just settle everything with my own power. I don't need anyone's aid. I've always gotten by like that, haven't I? I never needed anyone by my side."

The first impression most people would make of Fushimi wouldn’t be a positive one. This is also true for the second, third, and most other impressions after that.

The primary reason for this is the gloomy atmosphere he tends to exude. Despite his youth, he comes off as a person bored of… well, everything. There’s very little he can’t complain about and he rarely says anything positive. This alone would be enough to make him seem standoffish. In addition, his world-weariness and cynicism is often displayed in ways that could be considered childish. When he’s annoyed, it shows obviously in mannerisms such as clicking his tongue and muttering complaints. This attitude is present in varying degrees with just about everyone including subordinates and superiors alike.

It’s made clear throughout the series that he’s not much of a team player. Despite being fully capable of working with others, he prefers to go it alone. For example, he’s been shown to do additional work rather than delegating it. While he’d defend this choice by saying it was the most efficient and reliable option, it does display the difficulty he has in relying on others. This also extends to casual group events and general socialization. When forced to attend he’s always shown to stay as far away from the festivities as possible.

Perhaps it’s obvious to say, but Fushimi isn’t a happy person. The attitude he’s developed stems partially from a very difficult childhood. Specifically, he was born to wealthy parents who alternately neglected and abused him. His mother was largely absent from his life, to the point where he thinks of her in relation to his father - as ‘That man’s wife’ instead of as a parental figure. His father was also rarely present, only home a handful of days out of the month. When he was around he dedicated his time to tormenting his son; taking pleasure in making him angry and destroying what he cared about.

It was due to these circumstances, along with other factors like his own intelligence, that Fushimi grew up isolated and withdrawn. He never truly learned how to socialize or express his own thoughts and feelings in a healthy way. This gap only widened as he grew older and more distrusting of those around him, leading to a long period of his life where he lacked any sort of support system. Instead of friends or family, he learned to rely only on himself.

Throughout his entire life, there’s only been one true exception to this. Yata Misaki.

They met in middle school and, thanks to Yata’s persistence and determination, slowly became friends. Though their personalities were opposite in many ways, they did share a similar outlook on the world around them—that it was monotonous and pointless—as well as a desire to gain the power to change their small reality.  Over time they became inseparable, dropping out of school and moving in together while continuing to reach towards that goal.

During this period, they both thought they’d be by the other person’s side forever. It was only with the introduction of HOMRA, and the power they’d sought, that their paths started to diverge. Despite joining together, Fushimi was never able to fully belong within the Red Clan. The King frightened him, the members annoyed him, and the entire structure of the organization left him feeling resentful  and ill-fitting. This issue was only exacerbated by a growing rift between the friends. While Yata had found a place where he belonged, Fushimi just felt left behind. Like the one person who’d always understood him no longer did.

When Fushimi left HOMRA to join SCEPTER 4, neither of them were emotionally equipped to deal with the fallout. Fushimi, in particular, didn’t have the ability to explain the reasoning behind his choice. Instead, he choose to burn that bridge completely. After all, if everything is destined to be destroyed, isn’t it better to be the one destroying it?  And if being the person Yata cared about most wasn’t an option, he’d become the person he hated the most instead.

Even three years later,  Yata remains a focal point in his life, someone whose mere presence triggers a notable shift in Fushimi’s personality. Instead of his usual state of disinterest, he becomes almost manic. Intentionally pushing every button he can to provoke a fight. At the worst times between them, there’s a disturbingly cruel edge that seems to emulate the behavior shown by Fushimi’s father in the past. In truth, most of this is an act. A desperate way to remain important in Yata’s life the only way he knows how.

From this point in canon, their relationship has made some incremental improvements. This is mostly due to Yata’s growing maturity and development, which has made him a slightly calmer young man who has gotten past some of his earlier biases. However, it’d still take some time (or at least one long, honest talk) to truly reconcile.

Despite the unflattering portrait shown above, Fushimi does have positive qualities. They’re just harder to see. For example, he’s an incredibly hard worker. A fact that’s often obscured by his negative attitude and seeming laziness. It’s indicated his regular workload within SCEPTER 4 is three to four times that of most other employees. While his impressive intelligence and data processing abilities contribute to this, it wouldn’t be possible without a solid work ethic. This is also true out on the field. He follows orders and get the job done to the best of his abilities, no matter how much complaining is done during the process.

While he’s extremely critical of the people around him, Fushimi does apply that negativity to himself as well. Despite having confidence in his own skills, he doesn’t place much value on himself as a person. Which might help explain his terrible lifestyle habits. This is part of the reason he was such a poor fit for HOMRA. He functions better while feeling useful and striving towards a goal or job. He also has an easier time respecting those who use their power to make changes to the world, in contrast to those who choose to ‘waste’ their abilities by doing nothing.

Overall, Fushimi is someone who comes off as a much worse person than he actually is. His outwardly apathetic personality can make him appear as someone who doesn’t truly care about anything, but his more subtle actions show that’s not the case. For example, letting enemy clansmen get away with intruding on SCEPTER 4 territory—multiple times—with only mild griping, showing concern and even assisting HOMRA members, and tiny kindnesses like fixing broken electronics for team members. He always makes excuses for this behavior, such as it being too much of a hassle to do otherwise, but they still indicate he’s moderately less of a jerk than you may first assume.

In conclusion, Fushimi’s been described as a person who hasn’t matured since middle school. This is evident in both small ways—such as his picky eating and bratty mannerisms— and through his more serious emotional issues. From his current canon point, this has slowly started to change. Mostly in ways Fushimi himself isn’t aware of. The primary cause of this is the influence of SCEPTER 4, which has given him a place of security that’s been almost completely lacking in his life before this point, along with a King he genuinely respects and a place in the world that provides the structure he needs.

It’s his most recent choice, from the canon point he’s being pulled from, that clearly shows both his loyalty and the capability for growth he possesses. Choosing to infiltrate and betray JUNGLE, while placing himself in harm’s way, is an undeniable indication of his belief in Munakata and SCEPTER 4.

Just don’t expect him to admit it anytime soon.

"It's true... If I stay here, I won't have to deal with idiots or be forced to obey a superior's reckless orders. Then my answer's obvious. I refuse."

Abilities:

Auras: In the K universe, powers are granted through an object titled the 'Dresden Slate'. The most impressive of these abilities are given to the Kings. Seven individuals with auras that vary based on their color. These kings can share their abilities with others, making them their clansmen. Since Fushimi has been in multiple clans, he's got three unique auras that can be used. These are:

Blue Aura: His primary aura. It serves multiple purposes, and can be used both offensively and defensively. Specifically, it's shown being channeled through weapons to make them more powerful or through throwing knives to create a temporary force field.

Red Aura: A heavily offensive aura that's fire-based in nature. It can be used as an outward attack - like a wall of flame, or channeled through a weapon to increase the potency. Though rarely used, he is shown utilizing it to empower the attack of his throwing knives.

Green Aura: An electricity based ability that can be used on weaponry, just like the red and blue auras. It also allows for the manipulation of physics, allowing users to phase through solid matter and walk on vertical surfaces. Fushimi never actually uses these abilities within canon, but from this canon point, he does have access to them.

Combat: Along with the above, Fushimi is experienced with both his sword and throwing knives. Instead of following the strict SCEPTER 4 style, he uses his hidden weaponry along with his saber. This results in a form that's less formal but no less effective.

Intelligence: Fushimi is extremely intelligent, able to gather and process information quickly. These skills are largely the reason he was valued by three different clans. He's also shown to be skilled with computers and is capable of programming and hacking.

Flaws:

Fushimi is a relentlessly negative person with limited interpersonal skills. His usual behavior is unpleasant at best, as he comes off as varying levels of standoffish, disinterested, and rude.  He assumes the worst of most situations and tends to bottle up certain emotions, such as jealousy, to the point of bitterness. While he doesn't usually mean harm, his bluntness can come off as callous and has caused offence in the past. He's also got an immature streak which can lead to pettiness. His insecurity and other issues often lead to him keeping people at a distance, and even when he tries to let them in, he's not quite sure how. Showing affection or any sort of weakness is difficult for him, and he prefers to cover up feelings like that with more cynicism and bravado.

He can be quite ruthless in pursuit of his goals. This is shown in actions like roughing up a suspect to get information and drugging a teenage girl to get access to school records. There are times when he gets enjoyment out of physical violence, such as in fights against people who he finds genuinely disgusting. Or when against Yata.
